The current organizational structure for Our 42nd Avenue consists of three groups: Community Relationships, Economic Development and Organization. As of now, these groups are tied together by a steering committee of community members, though the longer term goal is to develop a Board of Directors that is representative of the community’s full diversity.
Broadly, we are a consensus organization at all levels of our committees. We welcome all community members to participate in our committees — you’re always welcome to show up to one of our standing meetings, though we can be better prepared for new folks if you contact us beforehand.
A little about our committees:
Community Relationships ~ Engages our community through events, media, one-on-one discussions, social media and other avenues. The goal is to get folks involved and to ensure that the needs/desires of our community continue to drive Our 42nd Avenue in an inclusive way. Meets on the first Monday of each month (check calendar).
Economic Development ~ Serves as a connection point between community needs and the district’s development. The activities of this group include land use, physical design and business development. This might mean connecting a potential entrepreneur with a place to locate, helping local businesses find employees from our community, or working to improve the pedestrian-friendliness of district design… amongst many other things. Meets on the fourth Monday of each month (check calendar).
Organization ~ Oversees the mission and administration of the organization. This group works out the organizational details of Our 42nd Avenue, striving to make us more inclusive and effective. Amongst other things, it manages our relationships with partner organizations, along with our finances, fund-raising and the development of our future Board of Directors. Meets on the third Monday of each month (check calendar).
Within each of these committees are several working teams which undertake various projects — community members do not need to sit on a committee to join a project team.
