Economic Development

Serves as a connection point between community needs and the district’s development. The activities of this group include land use, physical design and business development. This might mean connecting a potential entrepreneur with a place to locate, helping local businesses find employees from our community, or working to improve the pedestrian-friendliness of district design… amongst many other things. Meets on the fourth Monday of each month (check calendar).

Get involved in any of the following project teams:

  • Land Use: Addressing zoning and the physical development of 42nd Avenue.
    • Current activities:
      • Addressing 42nd Avenue zoning issues & the City’s Comprehensive Plan Update. In Progress.
  • Business Development: Assisting businesses and entrepreneurs meet community needs and create jobs. *Click link for general list of our services.
    • Current activities:
      • Creating connections with business support providers. In Progress.
      • Collecting of community preferences and information. In Progress.
      • Connecting potential businesses with property owners. In Progress.
      • Administration of business mini-grants for physical improvements. In Development.
  • Design: Helping create a cohesive vision for our community. We are fortunate to have talented architects and urban designers volunteering on this team, though many of ‘the untrained’ are also participating.
    • Current activities:
      • Offering business storefront consultations. In Development.
      • Engaging community members in reimagining the district through min-workshops (e.g. the 42nd Avenue Street Fair). In Progress.
      • Planning a Community Design Workshop for February 2013. In Development.
